Double chin options in Korea: injections, devices or liposuction?

In Seoul a double chin is usually treated in one of three ways: fat-dissolving injections, energy devices such as InMode or Onda, or liposuction. Injections and devices suit a small to moderate fullness and take several sessions; liposuction is surgery and suits more fat in one go. Which one fits depends on whether the fullness is fat, loose skin, or bone and muscle shape.

What readers ask

“Is there a non-surgical way to get rid of a double chin?”
“How do I know which option I need?”

What is actually causing the fullness?

This is the first question, and it decides everything else. A double chin can be fat under the chin, loose skin, a short jawline or chin bone, or a mix. Fat responds to injections, devices and liposuction. Loose skin needs tightening or, in more advanced cases, a lift. A small chin bone is a different conversation altogether. A careful doctor will check before suggesting anything.

““I booked fat-dissolving shots, but the doctor said it was skin, not fat.””

That is the kind of answer you want to hear in a consultation. It saves you money spent on the wrong treatment.

What about fat-dissolving injections?

Injections break down fat cells, which the body then clears over the following weeks. Swelling for a few days is normal, and the chin can feel tender. It usually takes more than one session, spaced weeks apart, so on a single trip you start the process rather than finish it. General fat-dissolving injections at the clinics we work with start around ₩79,000 (about $55) for 10cc, and V-olet, a product often used for the chin, is ₩299,000 (about $215) for 2cc.

And energy devices?

InMode and Onda heat the tissue to reduce fat and tighten skin. There is little to see afterwards, so they suit a last day of a trip. Onda is priced by energy in joules: from ₩100,000 (about $70) for 10kJ on one area to ₩190,000–₩200,000 ($135–$145) for 20kJ. Like injections, they usually need a series, and results build over weeks.

When is liposuction the better choice?

If there is more fat than a few sessions can handle, or you would rather have one procedure than many, chin liposuction is the more direct route. It is surgery: local or sedation anaesthesia, swelling, a compression garment for a period, and a follow-up visit before you fly. Plan your stay around that visit.

  1. 01

    Consultation

Confirm what is causing the fullness: fat, skin, bone or a mix.

  2. 02

    Choose the route

Injections or devices for a series; liposuction for one procedure.

  3. 03

    Plan the timing

Injections first in a trip because of swelling, devices last, surgery with room for follow-up.

  4. 04

    Judge at home

Results from all three build over weeks to months.

What should I ask in the consultation?

  • Is my fullness mostly fat, loose skin, or the shape of my jaw and chin?
  • How many sessions do you expect, and what does the full course cost?
  • What will I look like for the first three days?
  • If this does not work for me, what would you suggest next?

A good answer to the last question is a sign of a doctor who is thinking about your result rather than the treatment on today's menu. If the answer to the first question is mostly loose skin, a lifting device or a lift consultation may make more sense than any fat reduction.

Quick answers

How many fat-dissolving sessions do I need for a double chin?

Usually more than one, spaced several weeks apart. The doctor estimates based on how much fat there is.

Can I fly after chin liposuction?

Usually after the follow-up visit the surgeon asks for. Many people plan about a week, but your surgeon confirms.

Will the fat come back?

Treated fat cells are reduced, but remaining cells can grow if your weight goes up.

Which is cheapest?

Per session, devices and injections are cheaper. Over a full course, compare the total against one liposuction procedure.
