Choosing well

Who should not get skin treatments in Korea

Some people should wait, and some should choose a gentler treatment for this trip. The common reasons are pregnancy, active skin infection or inflamed acne in the area, recent use of certain acne medicines, fresh sun exposure, a mole that has changed, and a trip too short for the recovery. None of these mean never. They mean not now, or not this.

What readers ask

“I'm on medication. Can I still have treatment in Seoul?”
“Is a four-day trip long enough for laser work?”

Why would a beauty consultant tell you not to book?

Because a treatment that goes wrong on a short trip is far harder to manage than one at home. You are far from your usual doctor, you fly soon after, and your plans may not allow for recovery. We would rather adjust a plan, or suggest you wait, than have you spend your holiday dealing with a problem.

Which health situations mean waiting?

SituationUsually meansTell the doctor
Pregnant or breastfeedingPostpone elective injectables and most energy devicesAlways, at the start
Active infection, cold sore or inflamed acne in the areaTreat that firstEven if it looks minor
Recent oral isotretinoin (for acne)Many lasers and resurfacing treatments are delayedThe date you stopped
Blood thinners or supplements like fish oilHigher bruising risk with injectionsDo not stop medicines on your own
Pacemaker or metal implants near the areaSome energy devices are not suitableBefore any device is used
Fish or salmon allergyAvoid PDRN products such as RejuranBefore injection
Common reasons to pause or change the plan

What about your skin right now?

  • A fresh tan: many lasers are done more cautiously on tanned skin, and some are better postponed.
  • Blotchy brown patches on both cheeks: this may be melasma, which can worsen with aggressive spot removal.
  • A mole that has changed shape, colour or size, or that bleeds or itches: it needs examination, not a laser.
  • Very reactive or irritated skin: settle it before adding treatments.

Is your trip long enough?

This is the most common mismatch we see. Spot removal leaves patches for about a week. Some injectables leave bumps or swelling for a few days. Surgery needs a follow-up visit before you fly. On a very short trip, choose treatments with little visible downtime and leave the rest for a longer visit.

Trip lengthUsually worksUsually better on a longer trip
2–3 nightsConsultation, toning, lifting devices, botoxSpot removal, filler before photos, surgery
4–6 nightsMost skin treatments if marks go firstSurgery with stitches
7+ nightsSkin treatments and some minor surgeryLarger surgery, depending on the surgeon
A rough fit between trip length and treatment type

What about expectations?

Some reasons to wait are not medical. If you cannot name what bothers you in a sentence, a clinic may fill the gap with a long list of treatments. If you are hoping to look like a particular person, a doctor cannot deliver someone else's face. And if you feel pressured to decide on the spot, it is fine to leave and think. A good clinic will still be there tomorrow.

“Not this trip is a perfectly good answer.”

What are the honest limits?

This list is general and cannot cover every condition. It is not medical advice and does not replace a doctor's assessment. Its purpose is to help you raise the right points early, ideally before you book flights around a treatment.

Quick answers

Can I have botox while breastfeeding?

Elective treatments like botox are usually postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Discuss it with a doctor.

I took isotretinoin last year. Can I have laser?

Tell the doctor exactly when you stopped. Many clinics wait a period after isotretinoin before lasers or resurfacing, and they will decide based on your history.

Can I get a mole removed while I am in Seoul?

If the mole has not changed and a doctor examines it, often yes. If it has changed, bleeds or itches, it needs proper examination first, which may include a biopsy.

Is a three-day trip too short for any treatment?

No. Consultation, toning, lifting devices and botox usually fit. Treatments that leave marks are better on longer trips.
